So I've decided to join in the digital "Dear Diary" culture. This may sound quite funny as I have grown up with the technology as it developed (being only 22), yet I still feel somewhat left behind. Is this because I just haven't had the interest or is it because even though I am young, the young people around me aren't that into it.. I don't talk to my friends and hear them say "You should read my blog/any blog". We just don't do it. Is it an American thing? It seems that every house in America has internet connection (and a good one at that) and that all the kids seem to do is spend their lives on the internet so therefore they were bound to start blogging. We just don't have that here or maybe I'm mistaken. Is it a social class thing? My parents never had tons of money and when we did finally get internet in our house it was on the family computer and in order to connect we had to unplug the phone line and plug in the modem! Therefore it was always too much of a mission to sit and mess around on the internet all day. And even now with my lifestyle, I hardly turn my computer on at home and just surf the web. The reason that I actually got inspired to start this blog is because one of my friends in AUSTRALIA started one. So even there I have not had any influence from those directly around me. Is South Africa a little left behind in this exploding digital age or is it just me? If it is in fact just me then what am I missing out on? Sure I use email (Mostly for work) and I have a facebook profile that I update regularly but even still the whole Twitter thing hasn't really caught my attention and the same applies for my friends.
So anyway, this is the start of my very own blog where I intend to talk about things that get me thinking, the events of my days spent as an auditing articled clerk, who studies part time, has a musician boyfriend and feel technologically challenged! (among other things)
Naturally I don't expect anyone to read it but if you do and you have thoughts or ideas please don't hesitate to comment.
